چکیده
Abstract The number of fireflies in Japan has decreased with the development cities and industries. As a first step toward regeneration an environment for fireflies, we report attempt to breed aquatic firefly larvae. Focusing on operational stability equipment used, use safety evaluation method like that employed petrochemical plants. death larvae is major risk breeding. larval scenario analyzed clarified using fault tree analysis, demonstrating reducing mistakes monitoring water flow temperature conditions contribute most reduction probability death. An experiment simulating supply stoppage estimate permissible time response once rose reported. A breeding system equipped alarm function prompting emergency responses constructed. Fireflies, including mature larvae, are successfully bred effectiveness this demonstrated by comparing it conventional system. superiority study indicated twofold increase yield lower expenses related strategy.

Description of Luciola aquatilis sp. nov., a new aquatic firefly (Coleoptera: Lampyridae: Luciolinae) from Thailand
A new species of aquatic firefly belonging to Luciola Laporte is described and illustrated based on external morphology of both males and females, and the genitalia of males. Luciola aquatilis sp. nov., a common firefly in Thailand was formerly commonly misidentified as Luciola brahmina Bourgeois. Other Luciola species that resemble L. aquatilis are discussed, as well as past confusion concerni...
متن کاملTranscriptome analysis reveals candidate genes involved in luciferin metabolism in Luciola aquatilis (Coleoptera: Lampyridae)
Bioluminescence, which living organisms such as fireflies emit light, has been studied extensively for over half a century. This intriguing reaction, having its origins in nature where glowing insects can signal things such as attraction or defense, is now widely used in biotechnology with applications of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence. Luciferase, a key enzyme in this reaction, has been...
متن کاملExpression of the nos gene and Firefly Flashing: A Test of the Nitric-Oxide-Mediated Flash Control Model
Fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) emit various types of light that differ among species and populations of the same species. Their lights are assumed to be biological properties that play important ecological and evolutionary roles. Some species in the Lampyridae emit periodic luminescence, the patterns of which are characterized by species-specific intervals. In previous work, it was predicte...
متن کاملMicrofungi Associated with Pteroptyx bearni (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) Eggs and Larvae from Kawang River, Sabah (Northern Borneo)
Overlooking the importance of insect disease can have disastrous effects on insect conservation. This study reported the microfungi that infect Pteroptyx bearni eggs and larvae during ex-situ rearing project. Two different species of microfungi that infected the firefly's immature life stages were isolated and identified. Penicillium citrinum infected the firefly's eggs while Trichoderma harzia...
متن کاملLarval and pupal morphology of Pyractonema nigripennis Solier (Coleoptera: Lampyridae: Photinini) and comparative notes with other Photinini larvae
The last larval stage and pupal stage of Pyractonema nigripennis Solier, an endemic species from southern Chile and Argentina, are described and illustrated. Pyractonema Olivier is included in the tribe Photinini, Subtribe Lucidotina, and the larva and pupa of P. nigripennis are compared to those of Lucidota atra (Olivier) and related lampyrid genera.
